trouble connecting irc

Hi

My PC is beyond a router since yesterday. When I try to connect to IRC quakenet I get the following Message:

(12:47) (!) Your username is invalid.
(12:47) (!) Connect with your real username, in lowercase.
(12:47) (!) If your mail address were foo@bar.com, your username would be foo.
(12:47) (!) ERROR Closing Link: fixje by sw.de.quakenet.org (USER: Bad username)

Before I got the router every thing was running alright. Anybody an idea?

Thx Fusi

is it a linux router (iptables/netfilter)??

i ask because in that case you'd wanna make sure the ip_conntrack_irc and ip_nat_irc modules are loaded in order to connect to an IRC server via SNAT...

i don't use IRC, but i've heard that the servers need to hit you back using ident... so maybe what you need to do is configure the router so that it forwards port 113 to your box...

Thx @ all

I solved the problem. I set the username and the nickname to be the same. I can't imagine why, but it works. Before I had the router everything worked fine... So there are things in our world nobody can understand...

That's just something to do with how Quakenet verifies you and not IRC in general. The same will happen from Windows using mIRC.

yeah, but it verified me correctly for a long time and from one day to the other it doesn't work?
I can't imagine they changed their system within one day.
