traceroute timeout, "operation timed out when attempting to contact" in Mozilla
-----
So this is weird. I can't get to Google on RH9 with Asus P4P800 Mobo. I installed RH9 on my other computer and it works FINE.
There are ethernet driver problems with the Asus P4P800.
I know I could just plug-in a 10/100 PCI ethernet card and it would probably solve my problems, but I'd really like to use the 1000BT on the motherboard.
Can ANYONE help me with this problem?!? It still exists, and I'm using WINDOWS on my P4P800 more often than using Linux because of this problem!!!
-------------------------
I recently got a new machine (with ASUS P4P800 Motherboard) and installed RedHat 9.0 on it. I'm having a problem timing out when trying to go certain websites. I've been trying to use Mozilla (but tried Konqueror once and had the same problem).
I keep getting the error "The operation timed out when attempting to contact
www.xxxxx.com". The weird thing is that I CAN get to some websites just fine -
www.yahoo.com works great. So do a bunch of others. However, many also DON'T work correctly (like
www.google.com, www.ebay.com, www.netscape.com). Note that even
www.linuxquestions.com seems to embed something from google (advertisement? or search engine?), so I can load half the page and then I get the timeout. I'm forced to write this message from a WINDOWS machine! Aaagh.
I thought that I noticed that websites that I can get to fine I can also do a traceroute to okay. But sometimes I cannot do a traceroute (ends in *** every time), and the website will still work fine. (For instance, LinuxQuestions.com seems to not allow a full traceroute, but I can get to their website okay).
I've already flushed my iptables. No firewall currently. DNS seems fine. I can PING to any of the sites that don't work and they seem to be returning valid addresses. Even if I type in the address returned from ping into the web-browser, I still get a timeout (i.e.
http://216.239.57.99/).
I've already checked to make sure javascript, java, and plug-ins were enabled.
I know the motherboard/hardware is okay because I'm running a dual-boot on it and the windows stuff works okay.
Any other suggestions? Or will I be stuck just getting only to Yahoo.com and timing out on 1/2 of the websites out there?
Thanks,
Brian

Okay, so after over a month of no replies here on LinuxQuestions, I've changed the subject of the post. Does ANYONE else run the ASUS P4P800 motherboard with RedHat 9.0? Does anyone have a problem with the Linux driver for the 3C940 3Com Gigabit LOM chip on this motherboard?
