The DNS wont resolve...

well, the story goes like this...

I've got an application which needs mail addresses and urls resolved while functioning...
but unfortunately, my system doesn't seem to resolve the mail adresses...

the ethernet is configured properly, and the gateway's been added to the route too...

the config files are also in their 'should be' form...

now, why should ping www.google.com or lynx http://www.google.com not work when the browser on X is opening the same without any problem?

well, I'm really confused out here... plz suggest me a solution...

yes, a proxy - which is our gateway....

but I've added that gateway to the route ( route add default gw -gateway.ip- )

no... I'm not getting it... it won't ping...

it says the name couldn't be resolved...

but the browser is connecting to the internet alright..

can anybody point out what I'm missing here?

It sounds like your network admin is forcing you to use a proxy which is not always the same as a gateway.
