temporary name failures in fc3

I've recently upgraded to Fedora Core 3 and I am getting a lot of intermittent "Temporary name failure" and "Name or service no known" errors when using evolution or ssh remote commands. DNS seems to work in general though and no one else is experiencing problems with these hosts.

My /etc/resolv.conf is exactly the same as my housemate's who does not have this problem:

; generated by /sbin/dhclient-script
nameserver 192.168.10.58
search localdomain

I could change /etc/resolv.conf to use the nameservers of my ISP directly, but I don't think this is the problem. If I were to do that, how can I stop the dhclient-script from generating /etc/resolv.conf and overwriting it? Thanks.

Hi,

you can add a host statement in your dhcpd config :

host my-machine {
domain-name localdomain;
domain-name-server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;
hardware ethernet 12:34:56:78:AB:CD;
fixed-address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx;
}

hardware ethernet is your mac address.
fixed-address is the ip you want for your linux box
