SuSE 8.2 behind linksys DHCP problems
i'm having a hard time getting my router to work with SuSE 8.2. i searched the forums here for a few hours and found problems like mine, but the solutions reached didn't work for me. im fairly n00b so its prolly something easy. anyway...
i have dsl going into a 4 port linksys router, going to two winXPboxes and my linuxbox. the router is set for DHCP and serves the winboxes IP and everything, but doesn't see linux. i have a realtek onboard NIC, which YaST autodetected during installation.
during boot it gives:
setting up netwerk interfaces:
lo
eth0 (DHCP) . . . . . . . . . .no IP (backgrounding)
..and continues.
here's what i've tried:
turing off DHCP in my router and assigning static ips for everyone, resulted in happy winboxes and no connection for linux.
keeping the router dhcp and just assigning a static ip for linux, still no connection.
connecting the dsl modem straight into the linux nic and setting up DSL in YaST, which still didn't connect (makes me think it could be the nic).
also, tried some small things like manually config'n via ifconfig, and checking my resolv.conf for the proper DNS's, ifdown then ifup to restart it, switching the physical ports on the router (bad wiring?) with one that worked for a winbox.
i tried updating the realtek's drivers, but had an error when trying to compile ("make install", no such command).
any suggestions at all would be GREATLY appreciated!!
