i am having problems configuring my toshiba laptop for a wireless connection in suse 11.4. i was using the gui, as my command line skills are a little lacking. when i go to the wireless tab, it asks for the password and bssid mac address. my question is which mac address do i put in? the laptop, the nic, or the router? it seems like such a simple task, i can't believe i'm not getting this. i would provide more info, but i'm at work and need to wait til i get home. i'm really anxious to get the wireless working so i can quit using windows and use suse for everything. thanx for any help.
In an infrastructure mode, the bssid is the mac address of your wireless ap device. As well on your wireless router as on your laptop you must fill in the same ssid field and passwords
i thought it worked, but it didn't. i scanned, found the network, set to connect automatically, put the mac address of the router in, and put in the password to the network and wpa2 personal in the security tab. it still won't connect. i have a check in the enable wireless, and it found the network. i've also tried the mac address of the laptop and the nic. no luck. i just can't figure it out. any help will be appreciated, i'll try just about anything suggested, except a reinstall, not possible without the external cd drive working.
under the edit network connection on the kde control module, there is a bssid, it takes a mac address, under the wireless tab. the security tab has the security type and password. the ip address tab says obtain automatically.
