Recommend a Wireless Setup for Suse 10.1

Hi,

I have been trying in vain for a few weeks to set up a wireless network with a Belkin F5D7051 USB Wireless adaptor. The card was given to me, so not my choice. But now I have finally thought sod it!

I use Linux for many reasons, but one of them is not to spend hours and hours pouring through forums, howtos and wikis just to get basic functionality! Dont get me wrong, I am prepared to put the work in, and at some level enjoy it, but I just getting frustrated...(I have a thesis to write which is on the backburner until I get this thing up) So my solution - can I use all of the knowledge of LQ to recommend an ideal wireless setup for my systems?

I am running 64-bit Suse 10.1 on a Packard-Bell Pentium 4 820D. What is the best way for me to get this baby wireless?

Answers will be hugely appreciated.

Cheers

ndiswrapper

If you have the XP driver that came with the USB wireless adapter you can use ndiswrapper. I used it with Suse 10.0 but I had to compile the latest version, the one that came with Suse 10.0 was outdated. Once I had this figured out, the actual setup took less than 15 mins.

All the best !

Appreciate that - have been struggling with ndiswrapper. More recent versions do not work for me. I read that version 1.13 worked with the Belkin card - I have had success with v1.23 in that I get

Installed drivers:
bcmrndis driver installed, hardware present

I just cant get any further - hence my request.

I recently bought a Belkin F5D7010 pcmcia card that uses a ralink rt2500 chipset. It was one of the easiest cards to setup because there are opensource drivers available from http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com. There is no need to use ndiswrapper.

Cheers for all your help...

...but I cracked and have bought a D-link card with an Atheros chipset since I read that madwifi would support it - hey presto - wireless up and running . Still small problem with intermittancy but I will fix that later
