SuSE 10.0 Most apps dont work Realtek RTL8139 card.

I have a Realtek RTL8139 Family PCI Fast Ethernet NIC card on my machine running SuSE 10.0. The only internet app i can use is Firefox, and that's only after disabling ipv6. I've gotten into my etc/modprob.conf and changed the ipv6 thing for the system, but i still cant connect to GAIM, YaST (internet update parts), XChat, or Appolon. What's wrong? How can I fix it?

About my network: Actiontec DSL modem connected to Linksys EtherFast Model BEFSr41 wired router with a Netgear Wireless access point in the uplink port of the router. The problem computer is connected directly to the router.

If nothing else, can you at least show me how to get GAIM connected?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

you aren't going to have conflicts between the physical network card and an application which just so happens to use ethernet over that device. if you use the 8139too driver, your card should work just fine and any issues are going to be at a much much higher level, e.g. firewalling or proxying.
