I have SSHD installed on my home computer and I have no problems connecting via LAN... Also when I connect to external Linux server XXX.ac.il and connect to my home computer vis SSH from it works well - no problems.
I could also connect form work to home computer for some time without any problmes but recently...
When I connect to home computer I get following message:
Code:
Write failed: Connection reset by peer
While there no problems connecting via LAN or from Linux server XXX.ac.il
If I try telnet on SSH port (to test connection itself)
I get replay:
Code:
SSH-2.0-OpenSSH_3.8.1p1 Debian-8.sarge.4
So it is defenatly not home firewall problem - there is connection but then something goes wrong
Connection using PuTTY or Cygwin ssh both not work.
I had the same thing happen when connecting via ssh from work. It turned out they's changed their static IP address so it no longer corresponded with what I'd got in my /etc/hosts.allow
Could that be your problem? If not, try something like
grep "refused" /var/log/auth.log
(depending on your distro) to check out the IP addresses which are being bounced.
Most of the problems I've had with ssh have all been with permissions - you copy a dsa_id or rsa_id to another machine using root priviliges and forget that it inherits these. If you're using keys, make sure the user and groups are not 'root' but the user name you connect as.
Finally, running ssh -v user@host might give you some clues.
I'm assuming you haven't changed any of your ssh.config settings between being able to connect and not!

Outside of my lan at home, no one can access my computer by ssh, apache webserver, telnet, ftp and probably more, but computers behind in the lan can access those services on my computer. I tried dmz, port fowarding, upgrading the firmware on my router and more. I tried everything the Linksys technicians told me to do, and I talked to several. Now I think that the problem could be with my Westell DSL modem. Someone in my family says it has a firewall in it, but will not tell me anything else. I wonder if this person changed some of the settings to make it hard to get in it, or that I have to use another port. I tried unplugging the router from the DSL modem and plugging my computer directly into the DSL modem. I tried http://192.168.1.1http://my.public.ip.address, and I tried a few more. None worked. What other problems could be causing this to happen? How can I access my DSL modems setup page? I also tried accessing the DSL modems setup page from another lan by the same method. I could not there either, and I do not think anyone there is smart enough to go in there and change things to make it hard to get in. It is also a Westell modem by the same ISP. I have emailed Westell. Westell told me to plug my computer directly into the modem and browse http://192.168.1.1 When I replied after it had been a while later. They did not reply to me.
