can anybody tell me how to configure outlook express to make it running well with send and recieve email trough squid proxy, before this I try to open port smtp and pop3 on squid acl but it does not work.
just give us the full breif about your problem, well as i understand your qestion is to how to configure outlook express to receive mails from a linux based mail server, right??
there is nothing to do in this, you just need to give your server`s ip address or name as pop3 server address as well as for smtp server address. it works,..
most of ISP`s are using squid proxies only so i dont think that there should be any problem in accessing pop3 accounts via squid proxy,..
i am using iptables NAT server in place of proxy and i am able to access pop3 accounts over it.
so what must I do to make the connection of outlook express through squid proxy run perfectly, before this I try to config the ACL of squid to allow port 25 and 110 for smtp and pop3, but the outlook express cannot process the email through the proxy, can you give details explanation to make it run.

See as per my knowledge for setting up the outlook express you need to go through these steps:
1. check if your mail server is giving you pop3 access or not, so if without using squid proxy you are able to use pop3 accounts then your mail server is serving pop3 service.
2. check if you have given correct proxy address into your internet explorer`s properties or not.
steps to do the same are:-
open your internet explorer-->tools-->internet options-->connections-->lan settings-->click on use proxy and fill the ip address of your proxy server.
3. check if your proxy server is allowing pop3 traffic or not.if you are not able to access proxy server for the same purpose then use nmap port scanner to scan open ports on proxy server.
4. check if you have given the correct ip address of pop3 and smtp servers in outlook.
If these given things are correct then your pop3 account shold work without any problems.
I think I need to give you some extra explanation about my current network problem,
actually my company just give the user connection to internet through the squid proxy, the user do not use any dns to connect to internet. The proxy working well with the internet but when we try to open the outlook express it cannot found any host name of the email, can any body give the solution for this problem?
I have configured Outlook Express on my client machine(172.16.1.23) and I get my all mail in my outlook Express from our mail server which is linux based server.
My problem is that I want to see my all mail of outlook express to accesing through my mail server, means I want to access my outlook express on my linux mail server and want to see all the contents(mails) of my outlook express on the linux server.
