Slack 10 has problem with SMC nic

A recent install of Slackware 10 is having problem installing my SMC 1211tx PCI network card (apparently uses rtl8139 driver).

Funny thing is Slack 8 had no problem finding/installing it.

Output from lspci returns

00:0e.0 Ethernet controller: Accton Technology Corporation SMC2-1211TX rev(10)

However, modprobe -l returns only sound devices and ifconfig only returns the loopback device (no eth0) even though netconfig ran fine (eth0 settings are reported properly in /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf).

What gives??

Try
Code:
modprobe rtl8139
to load the module that rtl8139 uses.
