SMC 8508T switch and SMC9462TX gigabit NIC problems
We just recently purchased some SMC 8508 gigabit network switches and every time I plug one of our computers that has an SMC 9462 gigabit ethernet card (running the ns83820 driver in linux 2.6) the switch shows no link (I know the cables are good) and the card's status lights light up and then turn off with a message in /var/log/messages looking like the following:
Sep 15 08:35:54 drbdtest1 kernel:eth0 link now 1000 mpbs, full duplex and up.
Sep 15 08:35:56 drbdtest1 kernel:eth0 link now down.
with the occasional
drbdtest1 kernel: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: trasmit timed out
drbdtest1 kernel: eth0: tx_timeout: tx_done_idx=16 free_idx=16 cmdsts=0000000
drbdtest1 kernel: eth0: after: tx_done_idx=16 free_idx=16 cmdsts=00000000
anyone have any similar experiences? I've tried two of the switches and both do the same thing. However, I can plug my 3Com gigabit cards (running the sk98lin driver in linux-2.6) and it works fine.
I've contacted SMC, but as of yet, no reply.
Thanks for your assistance.
