Question Samba Server Problems ( newbie )

g'day
i have spent the last 3 hrs trying to configure a simple samba server on my FC4 box without success. ive followed several guides and am using the GUI config tool ( trying to stay away from touching the smb.conf file ) but when i try to access it from my XP home box ( whose user has been added into samba ) i get a "\\localhost nos accessible" error. any ideas ?

also, for some wierd reason my /etc/smb.conf file is empty. dont know whats up with that, the settings are saved in system-config-samba.

thanks

The file is under /etc/samba/smb.conf
Have you added a samba password to the user?
In the smb.conf you need to uncomment the encrypt password line if commented out.
Is there a firewall on the machine. If so disable it or open the repired ports for smb connections.
Are both using the same workgroup?
Need to edit /etc/sysconfig/network to have the same workgroup in fedora/redhat distros.
It does not always work in the smb.conf. All depends on the compiling of many other apps.

sorry, my mistake :P

about the encryption, i did activate it in the gui so i guess it should be there, i will check later. also, i did disable the firewall temporarily to try it with no changes. also, i set the work group to "mshome" which is the same as the other computers. like i said, i can see myslef on my XP box, i just cant access it.

Well, i am doing it a little bit different and it's not working either. I can access shares on my win box but when connecting to fc3 shares from windows, i get a window to type a username and password to enter the share i want to go to. How do i get this fixed? I am pretty sure it's not a firewall problem, cause these are computers inside my local network, the firewall and gateway computer is not sharing anything.

To be more specific, i get a connecting to localhost.localdomain title window, stating that i am connecting to 10.0.0.4, my fc3 computer, and then asks for a username and password. Have any of you seen this behaviour before?
