samba printing- aaargh!

Hi,
I'm proud to have samba up and running, more or less.
There's some final issues. I have tried all kinds of combinations and permutations.
This mixture of Windows and Linux is REALLY aggravating!!!
Pleeeeeease, if someone could give me a clue what's going one.
Thanks!

Here's my configuration:

I have 4 machines:
a "linuxsrv" server, has a laserjet attached
a "w98" windows, has an epson attached
a "w2k" windows machines. and
a "linuxwks" linux workstation

w2k and w98 can see and access shared folders on each other, and shares on linuxsrv, so the file sharing is working.

w2k can print to laserjet on linuxsrv, BUT, its Printers box reports "Access denied, unable to connect" in the Status column (I can still print).

w2k can print to the epson on w98

w98 tries to print to laserjet on linuxsrv, but the Printer status shows the job is Paused, and I don't have permission to unpause it.

linuxwks can print to laserjet on linuxsrv, but not to the epson

on linuxsrv, lpq shows nothing in the queue. (it also reports "Server: no server active". Is this normal?)

I know samba is running ok (basically) because file sharing works, and it does almost print.

Here's my smb.conf:

--------------
[global]
netbios name = LINUXSRV
server string = Samba Server
workgroup = WORKGROUP

interfaces = 192.168.0.1/255.255.255.0 127.0.0.1/255.255.255.0

smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd

# if I comment out the next 3 lines, no difference
os level = 65

dns proxy = No

Sad to see one one has posted any solution to this problem... as i have the same one.

1 Redhat 7.3 box
3 Windows XP machines.

Its all fine browsing the shared files on the linux box but printing is another story. I print a page, it sets it to "paused" and i have to go and delete the print job after it is done. If i dont, It gives me access denied if i try and print again.

I go into the /var/spool/lpd/hp/ (my printer spool) and after i print and it shows the job still in there. Im kinda confused as why it is not removing them after i print. It worked fine until one day it just stopped working.

Any help would be appreciated.

This may not be the suggestion your looking for since it costs a few bucks but:

I have a linux server and 2 win clients with NO printers attached. I purchased a couple of pocket printer servers and attached the printers to the routers with raw win print queues in printcap.

I have samba shares "inkjet" and "laser" and both of these are in hosts with there repective ip addresses. I never have printing problems.

Consider trying the raw queues for the win machines with your current setup and add the printer shares to samba, I don't have a [Printers] share.

[laser]
printable = Yes
path = /var/spool/samba
[inkjet]
printable = Yes
path = /var/spool/samba

lp|PrintSir:\ (linux uses this)
:lp=:\
:rm=laser:\
:rp=lpt1-l3:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/printsir:\
:mx#0:

laser|Brother720 (Win uses this)
:rw
:sh
:rm=laser
:rp=lpt1
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/laser
:fx=flp

inkjet|HP952c (Win uses this too)
:rw
:sh
:rm=inkjet
:rp=lpt1
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/inkjet
:fx=flp

I have had this problem, and have solved using the following setting in the [Global] section of the smb.conf file.....

Try this:
use client driver = yes
