samba and netbios question
Ok I'm running a lan network of three machines a debian 3.0 distro with 2.2 kernal and two XP machines, one of which I upgraded to Pro....hoping it would solve some of my problems (ONLY CAUSED MORE) but here is the deal. I have samba running and it also is serving as a wins server... when I run
smbclient -L //machine
when I run it regarding either xp machine ie
smbclient -L //xpbox
I get a list of shares, but there is no information listed under the severs portion, or the workgroup portion, like it doesn't recognize anything but it's shares.what really concerns me is that with no workgroup listing it doesn't indcate the master browser on the network the debian box. However, if I run it for the server
smbclient -L //debian
I get the samba shares as well as a list of all machines on the network as servers and the workgroup info everything prints up
I think this may be related to another problem I have regarding pptp vpn connection to the network...I don't know if this affects netbios in any way or anything along those lines anyone know anyhting about this?
