Question routing question


hi to all of friends


I wanna use a pc with linux os as a router. And I know I hv to use 2 eth. But can a pc that has a eth0( network interface) and I assign 2 separate if behaive as a router?

What is this "if" you are talking about? I really don't understand; I am trying very hard, but failed.

maybe he means somethinglike eth0 and eth0:0 as a virtual ip
but with only one physical nic the word "router" lose its meaning i guess
as you only will be able to send back the packets to the closest device which sent/forwarded the packets to you
and that is just time wasting, thats just my thought i can be wrong

sorry i miss s.th. yes i mean etho. and in linux if means ip . if = interface . now I explain more?
for make linux as a router i must hv 2 eth0? Or i can use just 1 and use 2 ip ( means if) and it works as a router??

Yes, it's certainly possible, but you need to be much more careful how you configure devices to use you cam route with just one ip if you want to. I would very very highly recommend not putting different subnets on the same untagged interface though. Just because something is possible, doesn't mean it's a good idea and you should do it. If you do only have one nic then you'd want to buy a 2nd one or use vlan tagging to separate the traffic nicely.
