Resolve maximum number of concurrent connections

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to solve the maximum number of concurrent TCP connections that can support my Linux RH ES 4.
In principle I believe that the prinicipal parameter that limits the maximum number of concurrent connections is "open files", but there is some other configuration parameter that should be taken present like "TcpNumConnections " for windows?

Greetings and thanks

/proc/sys/net/netfilter/nf_conntrack_max or /proc/sys/net/netfilter/ip_conntrack_max

Thanks for reponse.
Well, you talk about netfilter but this is an specific framework that gives you the hability for manage net connections.
My problems is that i don't have installed netfilter and consequently the limits of platforms aren't set by netfilter framework.

I think you cannot track ip connections without netfilter (or ip_conntrack module)

Thanks Ygrex,
