Question qmail doesn't check local users validity through /etc/passwd

hi..
I need your help to solve my problem
I've setup qmail,daemontools,ucspi,vpopmail,qmailadmin,sqwebmail.
Everything is ok with virtuall domains which i've defined in
vpopmail.Virtual users on virtuals domains can send and recieve mail
easily. But my local users(the users who have account in /etc/passwd) can't
login to mailserver.(i've tested it through outlook it tells me that either
my username or pass is wrong)when i check /var/maillog,i see a line
containing
Jul 22 11:23:24 www vpopmail[4258]: vchkpw: vpopmail user not found testuser@:194.165.0.37

I think qmail doesn't look at
/etc/passwd file to verify local users.(by the way i want qmail to deliver
local users mails to /var/spool/mail,so i set the defaultdelivery file like
:/var/spool/mail/.
now what do you think?what should I do to make the qmail check local users
validity through /etc/passwd
if anything is not clear pls let me know to explain more.
Thank you.

My qmail works correctly. But there's one program you need to install: checkpassword.
