Converting qmail from /etc/passwd to LDAP

We are running a Fedora Core linux box with qmail as our email frontend for web users. All users currenct authenticate through /etc/passwd. We would like to change the way they authenticate to use LDAP. How hard would this be to convert, and what steps would I need to take? Thank you.
