Proxy Question
This is probably a silly question, but it's also really straightforward and simple.
Okay, so I have a base gentoo install on my system, but I can't get online at work due to our local proxy server. How do you set up a box to work with a proxy configuration from a terminal prompt? I'd think it should automatically detect that based on the info in resolv.conf (and resolv.conf-eth1.sv) that dhcpcd enters, but it appears not to give it correct info. I'm having the same problem at home after installing a new DSL modem, but I fixed that by commenting out the modem as a nameserver and manually entering the info for bellsouth's nameservers. I can't seem to resolve the issue at work, though. Any suggestions? One bit of advice I've yet to try is to set up the proxy as the default gateway instead of using the info from dhcpcd, but I'm not sure if that would do anything at all.
The reason I'm asking about setting up a proxy is that I can get online if I boot from a livecd and setup gnome to use the proxy configuration I pulled off a windows box, but I can't seem to figure out how to get the same effect from a terminal prompt as from gnome's network proxy gui.
