I'm trying to connect to the internet through a college network that uses PPP over ethernet. Fortunately they do support linux here, and I've already gotten my an x86 laptop running Ubuntu to connect, following the instructions
here.
Now I've set up my own laptop, a Powerbook 12" (PPC) running Debian, according to the same set of instructions (minus removing network manager, since I didn't have it in the first place). However, when I issue "sudo pon resnet" I can't connect. "sudo plog" displays:
Code:
Apr 4 16:54:05 bullington pppd[6187]: Modem Hangup
Apr 4 16:54:05 bullington pppd[6187]: Connection Terminated
Apr 4 16:54:05 bullington pppd[6187]: Couldn't get channel number: Input/output error
Apr 4 16:54:05 bullington pppd[6187]: Couldn't get channel number: Input/output error
Apr 4 16:54:05 bullington pppd[6187]: Exit.
I can get an ip address, and am able to ping the vpn server. Ifconfig shows just eth1 and lo. Eth1 is my ethernet port, and like I said before it has an ip address.
So far I've tried:
- Checking, checking, and rechecking passwords, usernames, and settings.
Other than that, I'm stumped as to what might be causing this.
