Endless Loop: ppp0 Unregister Netdevice: waiting for ppp0 to be free.

Hi all

Fedora Core2, 56k dial up external modem,
The following error message happens when I deactivate ppp0
Unregister Netdevice: waiting for ppp0 to become free Usage count =1

Activation so far seems OK.
Disturbingly its one of those intermittant problems (although its 9/10 now)

Closing down computer will not stop it, unplugging modem still has message endlessly looping. Connection has been fine for about 2 months (or more maybe), I have not changed anything regarding the modem (bar a change of ISP but that was not the cause as problem started weeks after that).
System Monitor (little graphic thingy) says when the loop occurs its between 96% and 100% proccesor usage. Cant think of any other relivant info.

Oh BTW it serves internet connection to a Win XP pro gaming, arr errm work machine (if that makes any differnce)

thanks again

Lon

Ok I have found a not very eligant solution, I open a terminal and su to root. Then use ps aux to see all currently running processes then use command
kill -9 [pid]

Is there anything i can damage using this till I figure it out?

Also I must do this before the connection times out (6 hr ISP uptime maximum) otherwise the endless loop occurs.
