Postfix vm-pop3d Clients have POP errors

Had a Server crash last week so I rebuilt Slackware 10 using Postfix, VM-Pop3d and pop-before-smtp. Most everything is fine but I have a few folks who on the client side (I als0 being one of them) will see "downloading message 1 of X" and it never gets any farther than that. At the same time this occurs on their side the maillog states:

Connect from 172.16.15.106
Dec 13 11:51:43 mail2 vm-pop3d[381]: User 'jonboy' of 'domain.com' logged in
Dec 13 11:51:43 mail2 vm-pop3d[381]: Quitting on signal: 11

couldnt find any references to error above on any English sites

have tried adding -d 50 -t 50 to line in inetd
pop3 stream tcp nowait vmail /usr/sbin/tcpd /usr/local/sbin/vm-pop3d -u 200 --group mailman

got could not bind to socket errors and then nobodies worked.

Can log into mailbox just fine thru a horde setup on another server
no consistency between clients on MAC or PC both are having this issue

Would love to know if anyone else has gotten this. This is my 3rd server like this I have put together (only have done the pop-before-smtp once previosuly) and have not had this issue before. TIA

Have 15 domains on server and this issue seems to only be affecting a few users and occasionally
