ONT question

If I connect a computer directly to the ethernet port on an ONT, what will happen?

A ont is basically a converter interface between the fiber signal and ethernet copper. Usually with a home configuration you get a combo ont/ wifi router. If it is just an ont device your computer is now directly connected to the internet. Have you tried accessing any websites? Is this the same computer that you posted this thread?

If you run the command ipconfig from a cmd terminal window you should see a public IP address versus a private address if your connection is actually working.

If my internet is down I usually get an ip address as posted in your other thread from my cable modem where if I new the password could actually change some internal settings.

I would ask your isp if you were supposed to get just an ont or a combo wifi router. If just an ont then you also need a router IMHO.

Noticed there is a different post on that question.

This is a dupe.
