No Connect Out To Internet

WRT54G. Connects to LAN by Ethernet and wireless. Won't connect out to Internet. Connected another WRT54G using same settings. It connects out to Internet. Thinking might be a physical problem.

This is the 3rd WRT54G Ive connected since February. The first one went out during the big chill in Texas rolling blackouts.Second one lasted till several days ago. Maybe I have a setting that causes something to burn up?

Are you running stock or dd-wrt firmware?

It is unlikely that any setting could burn up the WAN port.

You can test the unit anywhere in your LAN wiring, just set its LAN IP address to something other then your real LAN to see if the network is being detected.

With my last 54G the wireless died.

I will try connect to the WRT by one laptop, then connect to the other laptop from the "Internet" port on the back using an Ethertnet cable.

I can connect to the Internet directly from my laptop to the ISP's equipment with Ethernet cable. What would happen if I connected from one of the other ports to the Internet.

The Wan port needs a DHCP server or setup with a static ip address.

It might be bad luck due to age.
