i have a server (and firewall) between my default computer and my connection. my problem is that when i ssh to my server from windows, everything is fine. but when i reboot it to slackware, it's extremely slow. pinging the server results in every other taking 1 sec, and every other taking 1 ms. i can't figure this one out.
also, when slack on my default comp is running, ssh:ing to the server from "outside" is also extremely slow (if it even works at all) but when it's running windows, it works fine. seem like my default computer is somehow affecting my firewall.

Find out the network card speeds (both in client and server) fix them to be same - 100mbps - full duplex. In linux card speed may vary.
If you are using a switch that autosenses the speed of the card, try to use a recent ethernet card or set the speed to 100mbs - full duplex.
By the way do you have the same problem, after switching on if you directly go to linux (without once going to windows).
