Network card not configurable
I had been trying for some time to get Dreamlinux 2.2 (2.6.18-1) to boot from an external HDD and I finally managed to get this working today.
Note that the BIOS on my computer does NOT recognise usb devices as bootable and , therefore, the vmlinuz and initrd.img files are stored on the (bootable) internal drive.
Nevertheless, even taking the precautions that had been successful for a number of distros, Dreamlinux just wouldn't boot.
That is, until I used the vmlinuz and initrd.img files from OpenSUSE to boot Dream (the openSUSE 10.2 kernel is 2.6.18-8).
This works fine apart from the unfortunate fact that I cannot get an Internet connection.
When I try Settings>Network Settings, it tells me that no network cards are available.
Of course, this is untrue as the Intel card works without problems on the other distros I have on this computer.
So, it looks like I'm going to have to re-compile the kernel.
However, is there anything I can do in the meantime to "persuade" Dream that my network card is configurable?
Thanks
Paul
