I have setup a linux RH 6.2 DNS box, suppose, the hostname is: "ns1.something.com". Now when i am trying to modify my DNS information from the registrar’s web panel, I am getting an error message "Error! Nameserver ns1.something.com cannot be registered"
I am sure this is not a problem of registrar’s web panel. Probably i am doing some mistake, I am confuse...when I assigning my nameserver address "ns1.something.com" the system should check the validation for the entry. but how it find out the correspondence IP of my ns1 server?
Is this the reason i m getting the error message? Please suggest me how to fix it!
Distribution: OpenBSD 4.6, OS X 10.6.2, CentOS 4 & 5

Your registrar might expect you to use the IP address rather than the fully qualified domain name. You also need to make sure that you have an entry for ns1.something.com in your zone file and that the zone can be queried from the Internet.
