linux registry?

slightly strange question I know, but do any disto's of Linux use a centralised registry like Windows does?

I've done a little research and I've heard of something called The Linux Registry Editor, but I thought all Linux software used conf files or something similar, rather than registry entries.

Thanks for any help,

There's no registries in Linux (Thanks goddess). There's a project called "Elektra", but sincerely, I hope they never succeed or got taken seriously...
