Post Name Resolution


Hi,
Whenever I try to connect to a windows machine through SSH or samba I get an error message.>>>Temporary failure in Name Resolution.
What can be its reason.ANd how can I connect to my windows machine easily ???.I know machine Username and Password and all are connected to my ethernet ???

you probably dont have the right dns server kept in /etc/resolv.conf

can you ping the windows machines?

paste the output of the command
cat /etc/resolv.conf

Post resolv.conf

AA,
I am only getting this when going to resolv.conf

cat /etc/resolv.conf
nameserver 172.16.0.250

you arent answering the questions asked properly,
can you ping any other machine from your linux pc.

is 172.16.0.250 your server/router?

Yes 172.16.0.251 is my server address through which I connect to the net.And it is running Windows OS.

Is 172.16.0.250 a DNS server? If it isn't, then your computer will have no idea how to resolve a domain name.

try adding your ISP's DNS servers to resolv.conf
