There is a WRITTEN EXAMPLE of what to put in cron, and it sure doesn't match what you have. If you can't read/understand/follow simple instructions, there's no point in posting questions. Installing and configuring mrtg should take about 30 minutes, at most. You've been at it for WEEKS now...because you're not reading or following the instructions, taking advice, or answering questions. Please, get someone else at your company, who actually can DO THOSE THINGS, to install this. Or get "Mr Josiah" to do it...
I inserted in /etc/init.d and create the mrtg file w/ this content:
#! /bin/sh
cd /usr/local/mrtg-2.17.4/bin && ./mrtg --user=mrtg-user \
/home/httpd/mrtg/mrtg.cfg --logging /var/log/mrtg.log
Changed to executable there.
What else ?
Thanks,

Are you seriously unable to read or understand instructions???
You ask about a cron job, and post something that is TOTALLY INCORRECT, despite being spoon-fed the exact documentation (WITH EXAMPLES) that you can use. You get handed the same documentation AGAIN, then post SOMETHING TOTALLY DIFFERENT than what you originally mangled.
The instructions and documentation are clear, and you've been spoon-fed them twice. Either you can read and understand them or you can't....and it seems like you can't. AGAIN...there is an EXAMPLE CRON LINE in the documentation...are you unable to copy/paste it?
I noticed The problem, The path /usr/local/mrtg* doesn't exist. And searching There isn't mrtg* below this location.
Right...because YOU installed it somewhere...they even TELL YOU in the documentation to replace the path with your own. Again, are you unable to read/follow/understand instructions?

"this site" meaning WHAT??? What 'script'??? Are you talking about the init.d script, which is AGAIN, NOT what you asked about before, when posting the badly mangled CRON job??? Put it in cron like pretty much everyone else does. Copying/pasting doesn't get much simpler....you have taken 30 minutes of EASY WORK, and turned it into this huge ordeal, apparently because you're unable to follow instructions.
AGAIN..you are in WAY over your head. If you're unable to perform this very simple task, you need to be honest with your boss, and TELL THEM YOU CAN'T DO IT.
AGAIN, SINCE YOU APPEAR UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND THINGS:
READ the LQ Rules..do NOT EDIT your posts, as you did by adding the "www.pantz.org" link to your last post
NOTHING in that link has anything to do with mrtg..why even post it?
The MRTG documentation that you have been spoon-fed TWICE has example cron jobs. If you're too lazy to even look at what you've been handed, or you can't understand it, that's nothing anyone here can help you with
AGAIN...get someone else at your company, who has SOME IDEA what the're doing, and who can follow simple instructions, to set this up. Otherwise, I'd suggest you email "Mr Josiah" again, and get him to help you, and stop posting here.
Because I'm tired of trying to babysit you. If you're so lazy you can't click a web link you've been spoon-fed TWICE, and show SOME EFFORT OF YOUR OWN, I'm not going to make it easier for you.
You're lazy; you've shown no effort of your own to answer questions, try things, or even apply what you've been told. The answers are right in front of you...aside from typing things in for you, there's nothing else anyone here can do to help you. You're doing a job you're not qualified to do...sorry if it sounds nasty, but again...setting up MRTG is, at most, a 30 minute job. There is ONLY ONE PAGE of instructions, that cover installation from start to finish...yet that's too much for you.
If you can't pull up the web page and do a simple find for the word "cron" on it (which hands you an example you can copy and paste), there's nothing else we can do. Get "Mr Josiah" to help you.
An 'expert' isn't required to read a line on a web page. You don't want to...there's nothing else anyone here can do for you. Get someone who can follow simple instructions at your company to do this.
There is an way to have necessary attention. Maybe someone had this problem.
Nope, because pretty much everyone else finds it easy to follow a one page, step-by-step installation guide, without having to be spoon-fed each and every step. You're having problems because you don't read (or UNDERSTAND) the instructions, and won't do things, even after having numerous people tell you to. Anyone else would look at the clear examples, and think "Gee..what I'm putting it is NOTHING like this..maybe I'll try what the author of the program suggests..." And their problem goes away...because it IS NOT a problem with mrtg, Linux, Cron, or anything else...it's a problem with you.
