Mandrake 9.0 sharing the internet from XP
im tryin to connect to the internet using an xp machine as the gateway, this is the only setup i can have so please dont say change it. my linux is mandrake 9.0 dual booting with xp.
i cannot get it to work, i have tried everything, all i know is that it is set up fine, but the ip address in the mandrake controle center is blank , even though the connection says its up. i have realtek rtl8139.
i am not sure what information i need, so please just ask and i will tell you, please i need to set this up been over a month still no internet.
i have other problems , but this is a real problme coz i cant look up help unless i reboot into xp, when i get linux set up with internet i think i can fix the other problems easier, because i can look up help.

i'm assuming you have tried the internet connection sharing feature of win XP? I've never used it, but i hear about it a lot.
also, you can specify the IP you want to use:
#ifconfig eth1 192.168.1.101 netmask 255.255.255.0
this says (make the ipaddress of eth1 192.168.1.101 and the subnetmask 255.255.255.0)
