Anyone know what that error message is for:

NETWORKING is set to YES, but IPV4_NETWORKING is empty!

I keep getting that on start up, and i dont have a connection after that (network is dead!!!). I could not find anything on the net about that - can anyone help me??

try typing IPV4_NETWORKING=YES, then ifup.
also it would be nice if you gave more information, like what distro you are using, and how you set it up

I'm using Rh 8.0 and now it really started acting up, it gives an error when it tries to load the font on startup , and all the messages come on a different font which actually looks cooler than the original one I had...then when I tried /etc/rc5.d/S10network start it gives the following error message:
NETWORKING is set to YES, but IPV4_NETWORKING is empty!
Update your config file.(..which config file???)
Setting up network parameters .......[done]
error on line 38 in /etc/rc.d/rc5.d/S10network : ldapsearch not found.

I will post u any config file u want just want my net back !

Tried that - gave me pretty much the same output :

[root@localhost root]# IPV4_NETWORKING=yes
[root@localhost root]# ifup
NETWORKING is set to YES, but IPV4_NETWORKING is empty!

Please upgrade your config

Assuming you want IPv4 networking
Usage: ifup <device name>
[root@localhost root]

Also I noticed it changed my hostname back to localhost .. I'm pretty sure its something simple Im missing

This is the only config file I managed to find (resolv.conf)
search localdomain
domain localdomain;
generated by /sbin/dhclient-script
nameserver 24.158.85.3
nameserver 24.158.85.2

ah, the font error and the disappearing files.
did it say something like cannot fin fixed font?
that usually means the x font server has not loaded.
the font error and disappearing files happened to me because my my hard drive is falling apart, so i moved my windows partition to the end where all the damage is and moved my linux to the beginning.
boot into rescue mode from the redhat cd and run fsck on your drive.
i think you'll find a lot of problems.
if not, i'm stumped.

P.S.
Sorry for not getting back sooner, for some reason there was no entry for it in my control panel, i just noticed it in my email.
