iptables and Macs

Hello all

I just recently bought an Apple Powerbook G4 and tried connecting it to my existing network which is served by a linux box running slackware 9.1. However, when I tried to connect to the server through my Mac it could not find it. I know there is some communication between the two computers though, because the Mac got an IP address from the server through DHCP. Also, the windows computers on the network cannot see the Mac or connect to it. Is there anything special I need to include in my iptables configuration script to make my network Mac friendly? Or could there just be something out of whack on my Mac?

Thanks

are you able to ping computers on your network? or is this only about hostname?

You said DHCP is working so I assume you've got an ip address, but is your routing table correct? If hostnames are the problem, is your /etc/resolv.conf file correct?
