installing lan card(ethernet)

i have linux red hat 7.3 and a dlink lan card.
whenever i boot the system it fails the starting service eth0 prompt
how do i proceed to install the lan card propely so that i can connect my computer to another(Win98)
tell me if internet sharing is possible n how

(i am fairly new to linux as the questions i ask suggest
please help this newbie)

Which d-link card do you have exactly?

i have an ordinary d-link that works on ordinary hub of 8 connections .The problem is in booting the system as it fails to initialise the service of the lan card please help.
if u need further specificaton of the lan card i can tell.let me know

TRY TO MANUALLY CONFIGURE YOUR CARD IN 'netconfig'
