http works, ssh too, ftp won't :\

I got a problem with a linux box here.. runing slack 9.1. I can ssh to it via 192.168.0.2, http works too, but I can't connect to it via FTP. It says host not found.

This problem appeared outta nowhere, everything worked fine for like 6 months.

What could be the problem?

Are you sure the FTP daemon is actually running?

Actually I connect via inetd which is supposed to call the ftp daemon, right?

Only if ftp is configured in /etc/inetd.conf. What do you mean you "connect via inetd"?

I connect with a ftp client (for my username and password I supply my ssh login username/password) and inetd is configured to run proftpd. At least it's supposed to.
