How to update the pxe network install initrd.img and vmlinuz ?

Hi.

At our office we have built a PXE network install machine, using the guide here - http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...de/ch-pxe.html.

We used this method to install Fedora Core 4.

It worked fine until we got a new range of motherboards with a in-built via-rhineII network card, the original Fedora Core 4 kernel (2.6.11-1.1369_FC4) doesn't support the network card so it unable to pick up the NFS mount (with the FC4 DVD files on).

The most recent Fedora Core 4 kernel (2.6.17) does support the card, so it is possible to install FC4 via DVD then copy (via CD) the latest kernel RPM

- this is however very fiddly.

Is it possible to update the initrd.img and vzlinuz used by the PXE boot to the 2.16.17 kernel ?

- or is it possible to use the LAN driver from here - http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx...0&SubCatID=124 in conjuction with the original kernel (2.6.11) for the pxe install ??

Any help would be great

Thanks

don't get it

you mean, you want to make a new vmlinuz ( ie., compile a kernel) ?

If so, compile and make it. But for pxe, i am not sure

Hi.

I am trying to find out how to update / add a module to the network install initrd.img and vmlinuz.

I have tried recompiling my kernel and using the vmlinuz and initrd.img in place of the old network install versions but it did not seem to work for the network install (the kernel ran on my machine fine)

Also - I have managed to use the latest Fedora 4 kernel - 2.6.17 to use as a diskless environment as outlined here - http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/e...-diskless.html

- It works fine (for diskless)

I just need to know how to update the network-install kernel?
