How to SEND Email when using Hotel Hotspot

O.K not particularly SUSE related but as I'm using SUSE 10 I thought I'd post on this board.
Many people travel a lot with laptops these days and RECEIVING email is simple wherever you are --but try SENDING email using your client email program and usually you get problems.

A lot of ISP's now block PORT 25 (SMTP service) and web mail type programs are usually horrible and in any case you can't use your normal accounts such as xxxx@shell.co.uk for example.

I gather one can set up one's own "Pseudo" SMTP server which will directly send the mail to the recipients inbox via MX lookup --I've googled and people seem to say it's easy to do --just install SENDMAIL or something --but I can't make head or tail of it.

Any links on how to do this -- I just need the server to accept mail from my PC (say at localhost) from my normal email client (Kmail) and then let the server find the recipents email address using the DNS of the WI FI operator you've logged on to (easy to get) to get the MX address and then send it.

This way should bypass the Hotel WI FI's SMTP port 25 block as I wouldn't be using an ISP's SMTP server but the one on my laptop (if I knew how to set it up).

Help greatfully appreciated

Thanks
-K

SMTP server on your Linux notebook

Are you asking how to setup an SMTP server on your notebook computer?

I am not sure what hotels block. Incoming connections to port 25? Outgoing port 25 connections? I.e. if you can
telnet mail.ispdomain.com 25
Then you can get an outgoing connection to send your email. I *think* sendmail (an smtp server) will simply do the same so installing one on your laptop would not buy you anything. If port 25 is truly blocked then I think you will need to use a web insteface to webmail. SQuirreL? Or use a port forwarding server.

Make any sense?
