email 'send' NO - email 'receive' YES..?

hi,

i got the thread header wrong in my first attempt - this is the correct header: email 'send' NO - email 'receive' YES..?

i travel a lot - and use wifi access in hotels all over the world..mostly unsecured network access..
for email communication i use kmail from within the kontact-wrapper..

my prob is that i can receive emails fine - but sending is not possible..brings up an error window with this text:

Sending failed:
Could not connect to host smtp1.myprovider.co.uk
The message will stay in the 'outbox' folder until you either fix the problem (e.g. a broken address) or remove the message from the 'outbox' folder.
The following transport protocol was used: host smtp
Do you want me to continue sending the remaining messages?

i have altered the smtp1 address in this thread for privacy reasons..

does anyone know what i can do in order to be able to send emails..?

krgds

Are you sure that your smpt server is still working? Does this happen if are connected to the Internet via a hardline?

Your ISP could be only allowing SMTP connections to IPs they assign. If this is ture you might try using your local sendmail, if you have it running. Just change your SMTP server to localhost.

You might have trouble sending to AOL, and and a few other ISPs.

yes - i do have an ip address assigned with my isp -. and they have opened my account for smtp access - although it's with the requirement for authentication at login..
and this is my suspicion why i can't send from within kontact..
