Question How to force ethernet device to work at 10Mbit/s?

Hi there,

I have a linux mandrake 9.1 server connected to a firewall equipment, using a router in between. My server's ethernet device supports 10/100Mbit/s, although the router only supports 10Mbit/s. I have been noticing some packet loss in the communications through the firewall, and i can't even establish a ftp or telnet connection from outside to inside the network. That is, sometimes it does work (the ftp), but it takes too long asking for the authentication and eventualy it times out.

1 - Does anybody know how can i force eth1 to run at 10Mbit/s? (just to make sure...)
2 - Does anybody know why am I having the ftp/telnet problem? (connection extremely slow)
3 - Any tips?

Thanks a lot,

maestro

hi maestro,

check the manpage of "mii-tool"...there is a parameter "-F" for your problem.

mii-tool worked in my eth0 device (currently disconnected), but when I tryed it in my eth1 device (Fast Ethernet Card) the following message appeared:

> mii-tool --advertise=10baseT-FD,10baseT-HD eth1

SIOCGMIIPHY on 'eth1' failed: Operation not supported

So, I still don't know what to do...

Anyway, thanks a lot.
