Help with user access behind Firestarter firewall

I installed the Firestarter firewall and am impressed with its simplicity. I can access the net as root on this system (configured to use ppp0) and also via another system on my home network through eth0 but am unable to get access via a user account on the primary system. As a user the system dials out fine and hooks to the host network but that's it. The system says that the address cannot be found. If I dial in via root and then logout and login as a user then it works. I am not sure what is wrong here and would appreciate some help.
TIA.
