Hello
Can anyone tell me how to install FTP on a Linux machine.I have give my requirement below...
I have to transfer files from other machines onto the Linux machine(for wich i think i need a FTP server),Similarly other machines must be able to transfer the files from Linux machine on to their machine.I think FTP server will solve the purpose, once FTP server authenticates the request u can transfer the files..Anyway i have given you the requirement u can decide on the set up....This requirement is for Linux verison 6.2
The latest version of Linux is 2.5.14 and the latest stable version is 2.4.18. Perhaps you mean Red Hat 6.2? If so you should upgrade as soon as possible, they don't make security fixes for it any more.
For file sharing on a LAN you probably want Samba, this provides Windows File and Print sharing.
You can get it from http://www.samba.org/ along with instructions. You should also find it in RPM form on your origional install CDs (and the install CDs for any new version you might get)
Dear Doward
understand my situation i have installed Samba and i am able to transfer the files using Shares but i want to transfer files via FTP .i.e using mput or fput etc....what do i need to install to ge these commands working
Ya
I do not no how to install this FTP server can u tell me how in Windows we just use the EXE.But what is the case with Linux..
do we have any RPMS or do we have any packages
well, it's just the same as any other package.. you know how to install rpm's or compile from source surely? just find the server you want in the file format you want...
sorry, you're just not making any sense at all now...
once you've installed a server you can use a method such as "rpm -ql packagename" to show the files that were installed by the package to see what config files are there, if that's what you mean...
