Frequent Ethernet Link Failure

Hi guys,

I was having one On Board Ethernet Controller and VGA Card im my PC.
VGA works fine. But the Ethernet card often goes down and comes up
after sometimes. I suspected the ethernet card and installed one external Realtek 8139 Ethernet Card. It worked fine some days. Again it is also giving the same problem. I changed to another PCI slot, but still there is problem.

I rebooted the system and again it worked fine. I don't what is happening. So for ur information, i'm posting the /var/log/messages i got when i rebooted the system.

But it'll again go down.

I'm using Red Hat Linux 7.2 Kernal 2.4 7-10

can any one help plsss

Hello,

What is the ethernet equipment connected to this PC?

Maybe this equipment has a problem and it looses its link
If you can, try to connect your PC to another ethernet equipment and see if you still have the problem.

Other thing, look in the bios for automatic irq settings or plug and play (disable this two)
Then if it still does not work, you can try to unload the ethernet driver module , and reload it with another irq as param
like
modprobe real irq=xx
try some

You are not giving anymore information in this post. This was already said.
Did you read my previous post? Did you do anything? (manually load the module with irq=XX as parameter)
Which distro are you using? RH7.2?
Isn't a bit old? Do you have constraint to stay on this release?

In parallel, it's always good to burn a cd of knoppix , if you have one, you could make a try.

Good luck
