Red face following error occured attempting to join the domain


Login failure: unknown username or bad password.

I get this when i am attempting to join my XP machine to the Redhat domain

SERVER--> Redhat 9
I altered the Samba.conf file and the Samba sever, i dont quit know what i am doing here. can someone help me out?

is it xp home or pro? you can't add home to a domain

if you've got pro, then check your logs and tell us what you see.

Also make sure you have created samba users with smbadduser as well. When joining a domain you should also do it as root.

Thanks for the heads up on the rules, still a newbie

I Have a XP Pro machine

just curious. i added users with the users and groups dialog box, is that not the same as smaba users?

Also, why can't i open swat? can someone help me with that configuration part?

Hey David, as i said i am a newbie to this whole Linux thing, i have picked up alot with in the last couple of days. but, can you please clarify step by step how to add samba users?
And is SWAT an option with Red hat 9

For adding samba users see:

For swat - make sure that you do not have any firewall rules blocking port 901- post the output of:
iptables -nL
