fedora web browsing problem

I have a problem with the web browsing in fedora core 1.I have a internet connection via a local network and the server runs Windows 2000 server and winroute. For web browsing i connect manualy via the proxy server. When i use for me Windows as a OS it works but in linux don`t.

Can you ping the proxy server from the linux work station?
