Ethernet connection running WAY slow

I have recently put SuSE 8.2 Pro on my machine (Dell P3 1 gHz, 384 ram, 40gb partitioned C, D for windows, 20gb linux drive E:, 3com ethernet card.) Our network here is win. based, we use static IP's and I know I'm on a fast leg of the network, all 100mb switched, cause it was just installed last march.

My connection using Mozilla is slower than dialup. It says resolving host, transferring data, and usually times out, sometimes connects, but ALWAYS is slow. I am wondering if this could be a software setting somewhere that I have set incorrectly, becuase I thought Linux was supposed to be more efficient than Windoze? Thanks

I just solved a similar problem -- don't know if it is from the same cause. See this post:
