Question Ethernet card config problem

I am running SUSE 8.2 on ABIT NF7-S with nforce2 chipset. It is working beautifully with the exception that the onboard ethernet controller is picking up the IP address from my Cable modem. Anyone with advice on how I can fix this would be appreciated.

I had downloaded and installed the nforce drivers from nvidia for my distribution. everything else is working fine.

Just set a static IP for the NIC. I am not sure how to do it on SUSE. In MD and RH there is a graphic interface for setup the NIC. Also in the /etc/rc.d that is a config file that you can change.

Disconnect the ethernet cable?

Seriously though, why don't you want an IP address from your cable modem?

edit the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and edit ifcfg-eth0. That is where it is at on my Mandrake machine. Then change where it says BOOTPROTO=dynamic and change it to static.
