D-Link Dial-up Modem:: No Dial Tone

Hi:

I am trying to setup a dial-up connection for a friend with D-Link Dialup Serial External Modem, I get no Dial tone message with KPPP, and pppconfig does start a connection with pon.

Message on KPPP is

ATZ
OK
M1L1
OK
ATDT phone-number
NO DIAL TONE

How do I get this working on Debian?

Thanks Much

AJ

well this message suggests that your phone line is not plugged in the modem correctly

or there is an option of "wait for dial tone before dialing" in kppp
uncheck that option

regards
