confusion regarding a command


hi i came across some confusion regarding a command.actually when my collegue was copying some lines in vi editor for apache he was able to copy different lines at atime using esc+yyp but when i tried it it is copying the first line repetitively.when my frnd was doing it showd four lines "yanked" im not able to do that pls tell me the shortcut for copying those lines

You could use:

to yank two sentences further, or
Code:
3y}
to yank three paragraphs ahead. Lots of possible combinations.

All this can be found in a good Vi Manual like this one online.
