Communicating using the TAP protocol
Hey everyone
At the moment I'm working on a project that acts as an SMS gateway for devices that send diagnostic information to users in the form of an SMS. The devices currently send their messages via phone lines to a telco's gateway using the TAP protocol, where the gateway then forwards the message off the the GSM network.
I'm trying to create a gateway that does pretty much the same thing, using a linux box, a modem, and a GSM modem. I already have SMS Tools setup to send sms messages, so all that side's working fine, problem is, I have no idea on how to go about getting the info from the devices when they dial in. They all use the TAP protocol to communicate to the telco's gateway, so the way / format in which they do so much be common. Would anyone know what devices that use commercial SMS gateways send ? I've got the TAP specification, but that didn't tell me much.
Ive seen software that does the same thing as the devices and can use SMS gateways to send messages from the PC using a modem, if anyone can tell me how they work or redirect me to somewhere that could, Id be grateful.
Regards
Jeff
